I am excited to announce

I am excited to announce our outstanding panel of judges for the South Carolina News Photographer’s Association Pictures of the Year Competition. Corey Perrine, Augusta Chronicle photojournalist, Mike Stewart, Associated Press photo editor, and James Gregg, San Diego Union-Tribune multimedia journalist, will be attending our annual competition and meeting. Their bios are published below.

Please note: Competition entries are due by midnight TONIGHT.

Corey Perrine is an award-winning photojournalist for the Augusta Chronicle in east central Ga. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University (Dec. 2003) and has also worked for newspapers in Utah, Kansas City and New Hampshire.

His work has been recognized by Pictures of the Year International, NPPA, Sportsshooter.com, The Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar, Northern and Southern Shortcourses and state and regional competitions.

His biggest accomplishments however, are the ones that touch individuals, bring about change and shed light where there is little or none. His most prized accolades is the drawer full of thank you notes throughout the years.

Corey spends his off time with his hyper-active Australian Cattle Dog dog Sam.

Mike Stewart is the South Regional Photo Editor based in Atlanta.

Stewart joined the AP in 2005 at the State Photo Center in Washington, D.C. , then was promoted to Headquarters Supervisor at the New York headquarters in 2007. In his roles he helped lead efforts to enhance U.S. newspaper photo contributions to the AP nationally.

Stewart began his career as Staff Photographer at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock in 1989, and became Director of Photography at the Columbia Daily Tribune in 1994. He was later named Director of Photography at The Albuquerque Journal , and in 2002 he joined Polaris Images in New York as Senior Photo Editor.

Stewart holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Cameron University.

James Gregg is the 2009 Photographer of the Year (Smaller Markets) for NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism, which he won while at the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson. He recently joined the staff of the San Diego Union-Tribune as a multimedia journalist.

He is a two-time Arizona Photographer of the Year and in 2009 won two regional Emmy Awards for multimedia and video. A believer in convergence and entrepreneurial journalism, James earned three writing awards from the Arizona Press Club in 2009.

At the Star he has covered a variety of events and topics ranging from border
and immigration issues to impacts of state budget cuts to high school sports and community news.

He has been an adjunct instructor at the University of Arizona School of Journalism and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. James has been a judge for the Society of News Design’s Best of News Design and the International Regional Magazine Association. He has served as faculty at the Southern Short Course, NPPA’s Convergence and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists annual convention.

James began his career at a Spanish language publication in Northern Colorado. He has lived in Ecuador and Costa Rica as an exchange student and holds a degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Kansas.
